Importance of Intake Manifold Gasket

Intake manifold gasket helps in avoiding leakage of air or air fuel by sealing the gap between the different metal engine parts. It is made of a flexible material and is set in between the cylinder heads. The intake manifold gasket works as a filter, which draws and funnels air and fuel from the carburettor to the cylinders or engines. The gasket must be sturdy enough to stand the different air pressures that are created.

Intake manifold gasket is very important equipment. The constant change in the air pressure and various other factors can cause it damage requiring you to change the gasket. To change this gasket you would need to first remove the distributor by pulling the spark plug wires and removing the nuts to pull out straight the distributor. Then you need to disconnect the radiator hose and water hose, from the intake manifold.

The intake manifold gasket would have two long and two short gaskets, and after locating them, coat one side of the short gaskets with a gasket sealer and place against the engine. Repeat the same with the long gaskets. Then lower the intake manifold on to the gaskets, and take steps to install it by tightening the necessary bolts.

Reconnect the radiator hose and the water pump hose. Then re-insert the distributor through the intake manifold gasket by securing the bolts. Connect the spark plugs back into the intake manifold gasket and it is as good as new. It is important that you know how to maintain this gasket as this gasket helps in preventing mixing of various fluids of your engine to mix with each other, which can cause major damage to your car’s engine. Although the gaskets are now being manufactured of sturdy and long lasting materials it is still important that you be aware of how to take care of these gaskets.
